Video: Holzkopf gets old country riled and pleases Vancouver beard strokers
By Justin Langille

Musician Jake Hardy is an unlikely ambassador.

A self described “citizen of western Canada”, Hardy (a.k.a. Holzkopf) emerged from his native Saskatoon with a rich sound that fuses speaker-corroding electronic noise with tape sampled, dance floor-ready break beats.

After two years of studying education at the University of Alberta and partying hard with Edmonton’s burgeoning DIY noise and electronic scene, Hardy recently set up shop in Vancouver’s experimental music community.

While he has visited Eastern Europe before, this summer Hardy will embark on his first tour of Western Europe, visiting France, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Germany, with deranged French breakcore trio Princess Rotative.

Here’s Hardy playing around Vancouver and talking about the discernable differences between Canadian and European reactions to his brand of accessible, yet destructive, home made beats.
